This week, I was a guest of the 2023 National Scout Jamboree, a flagship event that’s held every four years. It spans 10 days, and several thousand Scouts and leaders gather at the high adventure location. This was my sixth time to attend, and I recall it being held in different spots over the years, but it’s now found a permanent home at Summit Bechtel Reserve. The Jamboree showcases everything Scouting has to offer, from hiking to white water rafting, patching trading and lots in between. It was a must attend event for me.
I’ve been involved in Scouting for five decades now, and I can tell you there’s not a better program helping transition boys and girls into good adults, learning respect for the environment and each other. Scouting serves youth up to age 18, promoting leadership and good character traits that will serve them well into adulthood. This is all governed by what I believe is one of the best youth protection programs of any nonprofit or religious organization in the U.S.
Should you know someone who you think would benefit from Scouting, I encourage you to visit the scout office closest to home. I can assure you, it is one of the best experiences you can share with your children. YIS.
