Being a regional general contractor comes with a few perks, one of which is exploring the places where we are privileged to work.

I recently traveled to the Gulf Coast to visit a project we are finishing there, and took a detour to visit the site of a project we built almost 30 years ago in Pass Christian. The site was interesting. The first development there was the Richelieu Apartments, destroyed in 1969 by Hurricane Camille, one of the four Category 5 hurricanes to make landfall in U.S. history. We built a project on that site in the early 90s and it was destroyed by Hurricane Georges in 1998.  I have not been back since then, but now the land has been transformed into a beautiful city park.  It just goes to show that as we go through life, whether constructing or developing, change is a constant.

On the way back, I stopped to get a cup of coffee in a charming town along I-59, Laurel, MS.  I was amazed at the city and how beautiful it is, with topography and all the renewal of the historic storefronts.  I also learned that is now the site to a popular tv show, “Home Town.”  If you ever get a chance to travel the roads in Mississippi, I suggest you stop in Laurel and then head on down to Pass Christian, which is completely restored and another sweet part of the world.
