Beyond the Build

Extending the Season of Gratitude

Tis the season. There is lots going on this time of year. We are all (hopefully) taking time to share remembrances of the year ending, time to build or better relationships and a moment to be appreciative.

About relationships: To me, people who build long lasting relationships don’t just think about others around the holidays. They are present throughout the year.

I try to take a little time each week to do something unexpected, simply “because.” And as Nike says, “just do it.”

One example that comes to mind is giving praise at a time that it is not predictable. It’s one thing to express appreciation at the close of a big project or for some other predictable achievement. It’s another to give a pat on the back for more mundane tasks. Think of it as giving flowers, but not just on Valentine’s Day.

Beyond all other benefits, intentional contact builds a relationship or fosters an existing one. Who knows where this may lead, either in our business or personal lives.
