All things considered, 2023 has been a volatile year. The war in Ukraine, one that we hoped would be resolved, rages on, and now there is war in Israel. We’ve gone back and forth on the state of the economy and what to expect in the future. AI has become a major topic of conversation, although we’re not yet clear on the role it will play in our daily lives. Having said all this, the general temperature seems to be cautiously optimistic. Maybe I see it that way because in our business, I have to be an optimist.
I find that this moment, in between holidays when the office can seem quiet, is the best time of year to lean into the uncertainty, evaluating what’s working and what we may want to adjust. It is always nice to take a couple of steps back and find those opportunities for change, and ways to support and grow systems that are working well.
What can we do to encourage team members who are valuable to our team? Do our collective values align with those of our customers and subcontractors? Are we giving properly to organizations that are making a difference in our community? Most importantly, I look at all that we had in 2023 with gratitude and anticipation for the opportunities on the horizon for the new year.
