Good leaders will never eliminate uncertainty, but they can learn to navigate with humility, transparency and being in the present. They communicate what they know and, more importantly, what they do not know, with a dose of kindness thrown in, recognizing that we are all human. These are few traits that I wish the younger version of myself had known.

Last week, I watched leadership in action as Fernando Mendoza led his team to a national title. I was impressed with the maturity, grace and humility he showed in the victory. He made this LinkedIn post about being the underdog, and the significance of persistence. Fernando speaks to the value of setting big goals and working hard to get there, taking risks and focusing on the team that made your success possible. I can’t think of a better way to summarize the key characteristics of a long-term true leader.
