Beyond the Build

Leadership

Time, and a Canvas.

A week ago last Thursday, we lost one of the most vibrant sports reporters a basketball court has ever known, when Craig Sager passed away at the age of 65. Here was a man who rose from a small-town Midwestern upbringing to become one of the most recognizable sports reporters on the basketball scene. He had the help of many colorful sports coats, which became his trademark, along with a sincere appreciation of those around him, and his career path. He seemed to always, always enjoy what he did.

This time each year, I’m usually reflective, asking myself these same questions:

What good did I do good in this year?

What could I have done better?

What’s in store for the future?

As those questions come up this year,  I will remember a couple of quotes from Mr. Sager.

“Time is something that cannot be bought, it cannot be wagered with God, and it is not in endless supply. Time is simply how you live your life.”

“If I’ve learned anything through all of this, it’s that each and every day is a canvas, waiting to be painted — an opportunity for love, for fun, for living, for learning”.

I am already thinking about my canvas for next year.
