Beyond the Build

Management

Overlapping Circles

Over our decades in business, I’ve learned a thing or two about business models, especially in regards to the best approach to project sizes being a fit. I recently explained it like this: We build $40-50 million dollar projects and also the $1 million and up projects. They all work in unison, being somewhat like a balanced investment portfolio.

If you drew it out, each project could be represented with a circle. If you only have larger circles, there would be gaps on the page. Add in a number of smaller circles, and you can cover the entire background. That’s how we like our job list to look–a few big projects, and smaller ones as well to round things out. This also gives us the opportunity to work with a wider variety of people and build more relationships, always a win in my book. Those “base hit ” projects often help to win the long game as well.
